The rhythmic clacking is mesmerizing. Sorta reminds me of the old time pumps used in parts of the oil field where there is no power available. Years ago, I knew a guy who had a real old tug on Lake Michigan. The diesel engine had to be started that way.

There's a early 20's rice mill on Kauai that has a single cylinder diesel engine with those kind of pulleys running powershaft's all through the building.
My grandad had those powershafts in his Case machinery shop, but by the time I could remember it they had a big ass electric motor running the them. But the noise, still remember that.
